This Peace Sign is the Mama of all of our Peace Signs and is constructed from an American Half Dollar, set with two rows of 1.2mm diamonds, and strung on an extra-long (32”) white gold chain. While the peace sign became a wildly popular symbol in America in the 1960’s and 1970’s during the “hippie revolution” to represent an anti-war sentiment (and has remained popular since), it was not designed here. In 1958 a British artist named Gerald Holtom created the symbol from a combination of the semaphoric signals for the letters “N” and “D” which stand for Nuclear Disarmament. These two symbols placed one over the other form what we know so well today as the Peace Sign. As diamonds have been known throughout history to represent innocence and love, we thought they’d be the appropriate stone to set into this piece (pun intended!).
The pendant itself is apx. 1.25" in diameter.
